Installing a progressive web app like Coalesce is a little different on every platform. This blog post will walk you through the basic steps on iOS, Android, and on desktop using Chrome.

Install PWA on iOS

Note: iOS doesn't keep you logged in when you install, so I recommend you wait to login until after you install.

  1. Open the app in Safari
    • Safari is currently the only browser that Apple allows to install web apps. If you normally use Chrome or Firefox, or if you opened a link from an app and landed in an in-app browser, you'll have to open the link in Safari before you can continue.
  2. Press the share button at the center of the action bar at the bottom of the screen.
• This will open a pane from the bottom with sharing options and other actions you can take.
  3. Scroll up
    • On some iPhone and iPad models, it isn't obvious that you can scroll this pane up to reveal more actions, but you can!
  4. Press "Add to Home Screen"
  5. Press "Add" at the top right
  6. Open the app from your home screen - congrats!

Here's what it will look like:

Install PWA on Android

  1. Open the app in Chrome
    • Other browsers on Android like Firefox also support this and the steps will be very similar.
  2. If an install banner at the bottom shows up, press it.
  3. If an install banner does not show up, press the three-dot menu icon at the top right. Then press "Add to Home Screen"
  4. Press "Add"
  5. Press "Add Automatically" or press and hold on the icon to place it on your home screen.
  6. Open the app from your home screen - congrats!

Here's what it will look like if Chrome presents an install banner at the bottom of the screen:

And here's what it will look like if you have to navigate the menu:

Install PWA on Desktop using Chrome

This is the easiest version!

  1. Open the app in Chrome.
    • Chrome is the only browser that supports installing progressive web apps on desktop at the time of writing.
  2. Press the "+" button at the right side of the URL bar.
  3. Press "Install"
  4. The app will open automatically in a separate window - congrats!
